  • Resumen
    • Chagall conceived his first stained glass windows between 1955 and 1957 for the baptistery of the church Notre-Dame-de-Toute-Grace on the plateau of Assy. This inaugural experience, sustained by Jacques Maritain, was initiated by Father Couturier and Canon Devemy. Carried out with the assistance of the stained glass painter Paul Bony, it was part of the search for overall decoration on an architecture scale, combining ceramic, marble bas-reliefs, and stained glass windows.

Based on the analysis of the Marc and Ida Chagall archives and the Paul Bony collection housed in the Archives Nationales du Monde du Travail in Roubaix, the author traces the questioning of the painter and the stained glass painter during the different stages of their creation. The article also examines the probable reasons for the interruption of a remarkable but unique collaboration, prelude to the meeting of Chagall with the Simon-Marq workshop in Reims, which will then work with the artist to produce the totality of his stained glass windows.
