Nodrizas del Campo de San Juan en la corte borbónica (1709-1782): Maternidad y lactancia subrogada

    A lo largo del siglo XVIII, y aprovechando la feliz oportunidad que su maternidad les brindaba al coincidir con los nacimientos en las familias reales, unas veinticinco mujeres del Campo de San Juan sirvieron de nodrizas de la realeza ganando títulos de hidalguía, vestimentas, salarios y pensiones. Aunque hubo un total de cincuenta nodrizas reales de toda la región manchega, este trabajo se centra específicamente en las del Campo de San Juan a través de detalles que sobre ellas trasciende en algunos archivos. Extrañamente, las historias de las nodrizas manchegas habían quedado orilladas y, con rara excepción, son desconocidas aún en sus localidades

    Throughout the 18th century and taking advantage of the opportunity their own pregnancies coinciding with pregnancies in the Royal Families offered, about twenty-five young mothers from the Campo de San Juan in La Mancha region of Spain served as wet nurses at the Bourbon Court. Their service was rewarded with limited titles of lesser nobility, wardrobes, stipends and pensions. Although there were over fifty wet nurses from the whole La Mancha region, this paper focuses on the women from Campo de San Juan through details of their stories in national archives. Surprisingly and for the most part, these stories have remained unknown until recently even in their own hometowns
