En un párrafo de la Vida de Nerón, de Suetonio, se observa en las versiones castellanas tenidas a la vista, un término, baculus, cuya traducción, ‘cetro’, no encaja en el contexto, pues se dice que, durante la representación de una escena trágica, Nerón dejó caer el cetro, sin que ello fuera percibido; el análisis del contexto no solo de la escena sino sobre todo del entorno histórico, que nos narra Suetonio, nos obliga a encontrar una traducción acorde con los elementos que están en juego para dar al término baculus el real signifi cado que le corresponde según la naturaleza rítmica del verso latino

In a paragraph of the Life of Nero, by Suetonius, it is observed in the Castilian versions kept in view, a term, baculus, whose translation, ‘cetro’, does not fi t the context, since it is said that, during the representation of a scene tragic, Nero dropped the sceptre, without it being perceived; the analysis of the context not only of the scene but especially of the historical environment, which Suetonius tells us, forces us to fi nd a translation in accordance with the elements that are at stake to give the term baculus the real meaning that corresponds to it according to the rhythmic nature from Latin verse.
