A partir del estudio de parte del material de Pycnogaster s. str. Graells, 1851 conservado en la colección del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales de Madrid (MNCN-CSIC) y el de colecciones particulares, se aportan nuevos datos sobre la taxonomía y corología de Pycnogaster valentini Pinedo & Llorente, 1987, resolviéndose diversas confusiones con Pycnogaster jugicola Graells, 1851 detectadas en la literatura; se cita por primera vez de las provincias de Cuenca y Jaén y se describen algunas particularidades de carácter diagnóstico sobre su morfología.

Based on the study of part of the material of Pycnogaster s. str. Graells, 1851 preserved in the collection of Madrid’s Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN-CSIC) and in private collections, new data are provided on the taxonomy and chorology of Pycnogaster valentini Pinedo & Llorente, 1987, thus solving several mistakes involving Pycnogaster jugicola Graells, 1851 detected in the literature; it is recorded for the first time from the provinces of Cuenca and Jaén, and some diagnostic features of its morphology are described.
