La Sierra Minera de Cartagena-La Unión, perteneciente a la Región de Murcia, se sitúa al sureste del territorio español. Destaca, tanto por su riqueza mineralógica, como por el patrimonio al que va asociado. Esta Sierra, ha sido uno de los lugares más emblemáticos de toda la Región de Murcia en la explotación de mineral, durante más de XX siglos hasta hace apenas 20 años. La Sierra Minera es un lugar único, con diversidad de elementos patrimoniales mineros con suficiente singularidad y representatividad. Todo ello, se ha incluido en un Sistema de Información Geográfico (SIG) utilizando los Modelos Digitales del Terreno (MDT) para la generación de perfiles longitudinales y cálculos de la red de drenaje. Se han diseñado una serie de itinerarios temáticos y educativos, acompañados de cartelería adaptada a dos diferentes grupos de usuarios, adultos y niños, para atraer el interés de la sociedad por este patrimonio, a través de un turismo cultural familiar. De forma directa, se ha contribuido al conocimiento y a establecer una relación entre la información patrimonial de la que se dispone con las infraestructuras mineras que aún permanecen asentadas en nuestro territorio, mediante la creación de rutas de senderismo. De este modo, se divulga y se muestra la historia de la minería y su patrimonio minero in situ, y la protección y respeto que necesita para preservarlo del olvido y del colapso.

The Sierra Minera of Cartagena-La Unión, belonging to the Region of Murcia, is located in the southeast of the Spanish territory. It stands out, as much for its mineralogical wealth, as for the patrimony to which it is associated. This mountain range, has been one of the most emblematic places of the entire Region of Murcia in mineral exploitation, for more than XX centuries until just 20 years ago. The Sierra Minera is a unique place, with a diversity of mineral heritage elements with sufficient singularity and representativeness. All this has been included in a Geographic Information System (GIS) using the Digital Terrain Models (MDT) for the generation of longitudinal profiles and calculations of the drainage network. A series of thematic and educational itineraries have been designed, accompanied by signage, adapted to two different groups of users, adults and children, to attract the interest of society for this heritage, through family cultural tourism. Directly, it has contributed to the knowledge and to establish a relation between the patrimonial information that is available with the mining infrastructures that still remain settled in our territory, through the creation of hiking trails. In this way, the history of mining and its heritage is disclosed and displayed on the spot, and the protection and respect it needs to preserve it from oblivion and collapse.
