    Tras el cierre de la Mina de Reocín (Cantabria) en 2003, las empresas públicas MARE (Consejería de Medio Ambiente) y SODERCAN (Consejería de Industria) del Gobierno de Cantabria, se hicieron con la propiedad del importante patrimonio material y documental derivado de sus actividades extractivas, desarrolladas durante cerca de 150 años. El convenio firmado en 2008 con la Universidad de Cantabria conllevó la cesión, custodia, inventario y puesta en valor de la documentación constituyente del Fondo Mina de Reocín, ubicado en la Biblioteca de Escuela Politécnica de Ingeniería de Minas y Energía de Torrelavega. Una subvención por parte de la Consejería de Medio Ambiente posibilitó dichas labores, así como la adquisición de mobiliario y la reorganización de los espacios destinados a su ubicación. El fondo se divide en Administración (40 series, con 823 volúmenes), Geología (842 cajas), Topografía y Oficina Técnica (17.000 planos y mapas), y publicaciones impresas (periódicas, monográficas y especiales). La documentación no se limita a Reocín, ya que comprende también información y estudios de otras minas y proyectos regionales, nacionales e internacional. Dada su naturaleza, el Fondo Mina de Reocín constituye un activo de interés para docentes, científicos, investigadores y empresarios.

    After the closure of Reocín Mine (Cantabria) in 2004, the public enterprises MARE (Department of Environment) and Sodercan (Deparment of Industry) of the Government of Cantabria, became owners of the important material and documental heritage derived from 150 years of mining activities.An agreement signed with the University of Cantabria in the year 2008 implied the transfer, custody, inventory and enhancement of the documents belonging to Reocín Mine Collection, which is located in the Library of the Politechnic School of Mining and Energy Engineering (Torrelavega). The awarding of a grant by the Department of Environment allowed these works, the acquisition of furnitures, and the arrangement of the spaces required or its location. The Collection is divided in the groups of Administration (40 series, 823 volumes), Geology (842 boxes), Topography and Technical Office (17,000 plans and maps) and printed publications (periodicals, monographics and special volumes). The documents are not just about the Reocín Mine, as they comprise information and studies about other regional, national and international mines and projects. The Reocín Mine Documentary Collection is an asset of great interest from academic, scientific, research and bussiness standpoints.
