On April 16th, 2019, the Chilean State enacted its Law 21.151, which grants legal recognition to the Afro-descendant tribal people. This achievement was possible due to the social movement, led by its own organizations, which started in the 21st century. This work examines the connections between politics, memory and the Tumbe Carnaval, an Afro-Chilean musical-dance performance, which, due to the possibilities offered by multiculturalism, has raised awareness of the narrative that denied its presence in Republican Chile.
