    The implications of covid-19 pandemic, which had a negative impact on the air transport sector, confirmed the cyclical nature of the events to which the sector is exposed. While in normal times, the main legal obstacle for airlines to open new routes or increase flight frequencies is the difficulty in accessing slots at airports (and in particular at hubs) and in the airspace, in acute phases such as the one we are currently facing, States and the European Union are called to adopt measures to ensure that airlines do not lose unused slots, in accordance with the principle of the use or lose.

    Le conseguenze della pandemia da covid-19 che si sono andate a riflettere negativamente sul comparto del trasporto aereo hanno confermato la ciclicità degli eventi a cui è esposto il settore. Se in tempi normali, il principale ostacolo che incontrano le compagnie aeree all'apertura di nuove rotte o all'incremento delle frequenze è la difficoltà d'accesso alle bande orarie (c.d. «slot») negli aeroporti (ed in particolare in quelli di scambio, i c.d. «hub») e nello spazio aereo, in fasi acute come quella che stiamo affrontando e che vede le compagnie aeree costrette all'inoperatività di molte rotte, gli Stati e l´Ue sono chiamati ad adottare misure che garantiscano alle compagnie di non perdere, in forza del principio dello use or lose, gli slot non utilizzati.
