  La consideración de la perspectiva de género en la práctica del diseño o en la investigación de diseño aún está poco explorada. A menudo, se destaca la igualdad de género y la equidad en el diseño de producto, pero en ocasiones el resultado son diseños que subrayan aún más diferencias entre hombres y mujeres, aunque tanto las necesidades como las características varían más entre los individuos que entre sexos. Las mujeres han estado involucradas en la historia del diseño de diversas maneras, pero han sido sistemáticamente ignoradas y su influencia en el diseño se ha desalentado sistemáticamente. El objetivo de este estudio es demostrar que estas teorías se aplican también al mercado de herramientas de mano. Así, los objetivos principales de este estudio son, por un lado, analizar la influencia del género en el diseño de herramientas manuales así como la influencia del diseño de herramientas manuales en el desarrollo y refuerzo de los roles de género. Finalmente, se integrarán las variables sexo y género en las etapas pertinentes de la metodología de diseño centrado en las personas.

  The discussion of gender issues in design practice, or in design research is still in its infancy. Gender equality and equity in design is often highlighted, but it often results in producing designs that highlight the differences between men and women, although both the needs and characteristics vary more between individuals than between sexes. Women have been involved in design history in a variety of ways, but consistently ignored in, and their influence on design has been systematically discouraged. The aim of this study is to prove that this theories apply also to the market of hand tools. The main objectives of the study are, on one hand, to analyse the influence of gender on the design of hand tools and to analyse the influence of the design of hand tools on the development of gender roles. And finally, to integrate sex and gender variables in the different steps of the human centered design methodology.
