La investigación pretende analizar el grado de afectación de la calidad institucional respecto del nivel de convergencia en el mundo mediante un enfoque de dos pasos. Primero, identificamos clubes de convergencia utilizando la prueba log-t en 176 países durante 1996-2018. Segundo, mediante la regresión logística ordenada investigamos la probabilidad de pertenencia a determinado club, según calidad institucional. La investigación presenta dos contribuciones fundamentales. Primero, un enfoque metodológico distinto. Segundo, se hallan seis clubes y dos factores determinantes para un nivel de convergencia alto, mientras que el resto de factores incrementan la probabilidad de pertenecer a un grupo de ingresos medios.

The research aims to analyze the degree of impact of institutional quality on the level of convergence in the world through a two-step approach. First, we identified convergence clubs using the log-t test in 176 countries during 1996-2018. Second, through the ordered logistic regression we investigate the probability of belonging to a certain club, according to institutional quality. The research presents two fundamental contributions. First, a different methodological approach. Second, there are six clubs and two determining factors for a high level of convergence, while the rest of the factors increase the probability of belonging to a middle-income group.
