    A finales de 1481 el rey Fernando II creó en Valencia un nuevo tipo de inquisición controlado por la monarquía, el primero que se instalaba en las ciudades de la Corona de Aragón tras la experiencia sevillana iniciada el año anterior. En los orígenes mismos de la que más tarde vendría a ser la Inquisición española, la correspondencia cruzada entre el monarca, los inquisidores, los oficiales regios y los jurados de la ciudad, permite valorar la actitud del gobierno y de la élite dirigente local ante lo que terminaría constituyendo una grave amenaza para su autonomía política. Una reacción que sería el preludio de la resistencia foralista presentada por el municipio y los estamentos del reino en la reunión de cortes de 1484.

    At the end of 1481, King Ferdinand II created a new type of Inquisition court controlled by the monarchy; the first one was established in the cities of the Crown of Aragon after the initiative undertaken in Seville the previous year. In the very early stages of what would become the Spanish Inquisition, the correspondence between the monarch, the inquisitors, royal officers and the jurados of the city allows the government and the local ruling elite’s attitude towards what would eventually constitute a major threat to their political autonomy to be assessed. This reaction would be the prelude to the foral resistance that was presented by the municipality and the estates of the realm in the Cortes assembly in 1484.
