Intervención pediátrica en trastornos del procesamiento sensorial. A propósito de un caso.

    La Dra. Jean Ayres creó el concepto de Integración Sensorial definiéndolo como la organización de la sensación para su uso. A partir de los trabajos de la Dra. Ayres, otras investigaciones llevadas a cabo en EEUU y otros países anglosajones han ido desarrollando y completando el concepto inicial. En el proceso de integración sensorial se describen varios niveles y se ha estudiado cómo la integración de algunos sentidos impacta significativamente en movimientos, conductas y comportamientos.

    En el siguiente artículo se expone el caso de un niño de 6 años que inicia la Educación Primaria con pocas habilidades motoras asociadas a la escritura. También en la clase de educación física comienzan a aparecer problemas poco esperados. Nunca fue un niño motrizmente hábil en su etapa de Educación Infantil pero, en ese momento, no se detectó como un problema.

    Se inicia el trabajo en TO desde la Teoría de la Integración Sensorial de Ayres, acordando con la familia y la escuela los objetivos que se van a trabajar.

    Tras 6 meses de trabajo, el niño consigue realizar adecuadamente la mayor parte de las tareas que habíamos planteado, consigue participar más y mejor en el ambiente y, al no necesitar prestar tanta atención a estos problemas, puede estar más y mejor con los iguales.

    Dr. Jean Ayres created the concept of Sensory Integration defining it as the organization of sensation for use. Based on the work of Dr. Ayres, other investigations carried out in the US and other Anglo-Saxon countries have been developing and completing the initial concept. In the sensory integration process, several levels are described and it has been studied how the integration of some senses has a significant impact on movements, behaviors and actions.

    This article speaks about a 6-year-old boy who begins Primary Education with very low motor skills associated with writing. Unexpected problems are also beginning to appear in physical education class. He was never a motoristically skilled child in his Early Childhood Education stage but, at that time, it was not detected as a problem.

    Work in OT starts from Ayres Sensory Integration Theory, agreeing with the family and the school on the objectives to be worked on.

    After 6 months of work, the child manages to adequately perform most of the tasks that we had proposed, he manages to participate more and better in the environment and, since he does not need to pay so much attention to these problems, he can be more and better with his peers.
