  Las infecciones respiratorias agudas son afecciones del tracto respiratorio superior o inferior, generalmente de etiología infecciosa, que pueden producir un espectro de enfermedades que van desde infecciones asintomáticas o leves hasta enfermedades graves y fatales. Entre los principales síntomas se encuentran: tos, obstrucción nasal, disfonía, respiración ruidosa, dificultad respiratoria, entre otros, los cuales pueden estar o no acompañados de fiebre. Se realizó la presente revisión bibliográfica con el objetivo de recopilar información sobre las infecciones respiratorias agudas y su nivel de incidencia entre los problemas de salud actuales. Se utilizaron como métodos fundamentales la revisión de documentos, 26 bibliografías en total y se tuvo en cuenta el Anuario Estadístico de Salud. Entre las principales conclusiones se pudo determinar que las infecciones respiratorias agudas constituyen una importante causa de morbimortalidad, fundamentalmente entre los niños menores de cinco años.

  Acute respiratory infections are conditions of the upper or lower respiratory tract, usually of infectious etiology, that can produce a spectrum of diseases ranging from asymptomatic or mild infections to serious and fatal diseases. Among the main symptoms are: cough, nasal obstruction, dysphonia, noisy breathing, respiratory distress, among others, which may or may not be accompanied by fever. The present bibliographic review was carried out with the objective of compiling information on acute respiratory infections and their level of incidence among current health problems. Document review, 26 bibliographies in total, were used as fundamental methods, and the Statistical Health Yearbook was taken into account. Among the main conclusions, it was possible to determine that acute respiratory infections constitute an important cause of morbidity and mortality, mainly among children under five years of age.
