This article seeks to reply to the critical insights proposed by Ermanno Vitale against the theories of the commons, especially against the so-called benecomunismo, which has flourished during the last years in the Italian political debate. Particularly, it intends to respond to a lecture given by Ermanno Vitale in December 2020 (whose text can be found in this same issue of the journal), in which he rejected the commons-theories, in favor of the classical notion of common good. On the contrary, I will defend that the commons-theories are the only interesting strategy to reformulate the concept of common good today. Furthermore, it will be stated that the point of view of the commons implies a materialist approach to the problem of bonum commune.
