• Resumen

  • During the last few years, experimental phonetics has shed light on most of the uncharted areas of the universe of the allophones of the Spanish language. However, the middle and prepalatal point of articulation are still far from being clear for the academic world due to the doubts risen over the allophones of the palatal fricative phoneme. In the present work, we carried out an acustic analysis of the various allophones of the Greek voiced palatal fricative produced by monolingual Spanish or bilingual Catalan- Spanish speakers. The limited presence of voiced midpalatal fricatives apparently proves the marginality of midpalatal fricative allophones against the preemince of spirant aproximant and semivocalic sounds.
