  • Resumen
    • This paper presents a pragmatic and phonetic experimental analysis of some acoustic features of the ‘mmm’ vocalisation in Spanish. The goal is to find out to what extent this vocalisation is used for different communicative purposes, and what is the role of some prosodic features, such as F0 and duration, in the transmission of this information. A set of 250 ‘mmm’ vocalisations extracted from the Glissando corpus were annotated with a speech-act label indicating its communicative use, and then submitted to an acoustical analysis of their duration and F0 contour. The results showed that Glissando speakers used this vocalisation for several communicative purposes, and that their expression seems to be related to either duration or the shape of the F0 contour.
