  • Resumen
    • The paper is dedicated to the problem of sympathy utterances actualization, whose prosodic variability is conditioned by the speaker’s pragmatic intention. In the introduction the problem of sympathy utterances classification is discussed. On the basis of the range of speaker’s communicative intentions the author singles out the following pragmatic types of sympathy utterances: compassion, consolation, encouragement as well as sympathy proper. Within the discussion part the author proves that each type of sympathy utterances is characterized by a definite set of prosodic means, determined by their specific pragmatic orientation.
