Resumen de Las Cajas de Ahorro de Venezuela

Este trabajo analiza el rol de las cajas de ahorro de Venezuela como componentes fundamentales del Sector de Economía Social o Solidaria que pretende construirse en el país. Luego de hacer una pequeña revisión histórica y visión cuantitativa de las mismas, aprecia su naturaleza como instituciones similares a las cooperativas de ahorro y crédito; analiza los servicios que prestan a sus asociados, fundamentalmente los préstamos; reseña los principales logros que han tenido, así como los más abultados problemas que las aquejan, para terminar con una prospectiva de sus perspectivas.

This article studies the role savings banks play in Venezuela as main components of the Social or Joint Economy Sector that is intended in this country. After a brief historical review and quantitative overview, they are revealed to be similar institutions to savings and co-operative credit associations; then, the author describes the services these provide to their members, which are mainly loans; also, he mentions their most important achievements as well as the biggest problems they have to face. Finally, he concludes with their prospects for the future.
