  • A debris-flow monitoring system was installed in August 2009 at the Rebaixader torrent (Central Pyrenees). One of the goals of this system is the definition of thresholds for the implementation of an early warning system (based on rainfall thresholds) and alarm (based on the ground vibration). The monitoring system incorporates several types of sensors, including four geophones, which record the ground vibration induced by the debris-flows, and a rain gauge to measure the precipitation in the catchment. On the one hand, the first results point that the ground vibration induced by debris flows depends on several factors and the definition of a threshold is a complex task. However, it has been possible to considerably reduce the false alarms detected by the monitoring system. On the other hand, the rainfall analysis showed that the threshold values obtained until the moment are similar to previous studies.
