    Actualmente en la República de Chile se está produciendo un proceso constituyente sin precedentes. En este contexto de pandemia se ha escogido democráticamente una asamblea constituyente con representación equitativa de mujeres y hombres y con unos escaños reservados para miembros de los pueblos originarios de Chile. Esta Convención Constituyente tiene el mandato específico de elaborar y votar la nueva constitución para el país que posteriormente se someterá a plebiscito. La historia constitucional de Chile es muy extensa y el camino hasta este momento ha sido largo. Desde la promulgación de la Constitución Política de la República de Chile en 1980, durante la dictadura militar de Pinochet, hasta la actualidad ha sido reformada en cincuenta y dos ocasiones. En este artículo se realiza una crónica de lo acontecido hasta el momento y se analiza el concepto de proceso constituyente, el órgano encargado y, por último, cómo repercutirá esto en los derechos de sus ciudadanos.

    The Republic of Chile is currently undergoing an unprecedented constituent process. In this context of pandemic, a constituent assembly has been democratically elected with equal representation of women and men and with seats reserved for members of Chile's native peoples. This convention has the specific mandate to elaborate and vote on the new constitution for the country, which will then be submitted to a plebiscite. Chile's constitutional history is very extensive and the road to this point has been long. Since the promulgation of the Political Constitution of the Republic of Chile in 1980, during the military dictatorship of Pinochet, it has been reformed on fifty-two occasions. This article is a chronicle of what has happened so far and analyzes the concept of constituent process, the institution in charge and finally how this will affect the rights of its citizens.
