    O estudo da história da Guarda Fiscal tem ficado à margem da historiografia portuguesa, havendo uma atenção acrescida apenas por temas relacionados com outras instituições como a PSP e a PVDE/PIDE. Deste modo, o presente trabalho tem como objetivos principais compreender a dimensão e a representação do termo “ordem pública” e o conceito de polícia; apresentar a orgânica do corpo da Guarda Fiscal, desde a sua criação, organização e distribuição à sua evolução; e, por último, perceber a sua extensão/ação no território português.

    The study of the history of the Fiscal Guard has been on the margins of Portuguese historiography, with an increased focus only on issues involved with other institutions such as PSP and PVDE / PIDE. In this way, the main objective of this work is to understand the dimension and representation of the term “public order” and the police concept; to present the organization of the body of the Fiscal Guard, from its creation, organization, distribution to its evolution and, finally, to realize its extension/action throughout the Portuguese territory.
