    El objetivo de este artículo es el estudio de las pinturas murales de la cabecera de la calagurritana iglesia de Santiago, realizadas por José de la Fuente Santa María de manera coetánea al dorado y policromía del retablo mayor, entre 1740 y 1742, a partir del pleito iniciado tras el abandono de la obra por parte del maestro. Los autos del pleito han permitido conocer el nombre de los profesionales involucrados en la obra, además de abordar cuestiones como los salarios del dorador, los precios de los materiales o las diferentes formas de concebir el trabajo del pintor que, a lo largo de la Edad Moderna, pasó de ser considerado un artesano a ser visto como un artista.

    The objective of this article is the study of the mural paintings of the head of the church of Santiago de Calahorra, made by José de la Fuente Santa María at the same time as the gilding and polychromy of the main altarpiece, between 1740 and 1742, from the lawsuit initiated after the master’s abandonment of the work. The documents of the lawsuit have allowed to know the name of the professionals involved in the work, in addition to addressing questions such as the salaries of the gilder, the prices of materials or the different ways of conceiving the painter's work, which throughout the Age Moderna went from being considered a craftsman to being seen as an artist
