Resumen de Las carreras rarámuri y su contexto: una propuesta de interpretación

Juan Rodríguez López

  • This work applies some methodological principles and analytical concepts of Claude Lévi-Strauss, Edmund R. Leach and Umberto Eco to the raramuri’s races inquiry, keeping the author’s convergences and divergences with the structuralism implicit. In the first place, the history, qualities and ecological environment of the raramuri, an indian group of North Mexico as well known as tarahumar, are briefly introduced. Then social importance and functional richness of the batari (fermented corn drink) are analized in order to explain raramuri social relations essential features and races’ place in them. Finally, a semiotic interpretation proposal is put forth by linking simbolic social and material issues.
