  • The Ojiteco ethnomedical classification system is complicated indeed. Around the gastrointestinal diseases, many disturbances are known according to the morphology, color and smell of feces, three nosological supracategories, six etiological groups, a clear differentiation between natural and supernatural distress and diverse degrees of severity. The explanatory model, however, does not necessarily guide the behavior of the social subjects within the search process of curative attention that begins at home. The disease experience does not correspond closely to the cognitive panorama of the latter. The intensive ethnographical investigations of the health-disease-attention process are essential in order to conceive these differences
