Estableciendo puentes: articulación de significados y acomodación social en movimientos religiosos en el Cono Sur

    Suele suponerse que la adopción por parte de un determinado grupo de religiones originadas en otros contextos implica necesariamente una modificación importante de las mismas para poder tener un mínimo de éxito en cultu-ras diferentes de las cuales nacieron. Analizando la expansión de las religiones afrobrasileñas en Argentina, el trabajo argumenta que estas posiciones subestiman la utilización de mecanismos (no tanto de adaptación) sino de presentación de las nuevas ideas, que facilitan la recepción individual y social de nuevas religiones, sin que esto signifique ineludiblemente grandes modificaciones en la doctrina y en las prácticas. Esto se lograría estableciendo puentes entre los sistemas de creencias y/o valores presentes en la sociedad y los sistemas de creencias de las nuevas religiones. La noción de frame alignment (alineación de marcos interpretativos de la realidad) desarrolla-da por el sociólogo americano David Snow resulta particularmente apropiada para entender este proceso

    It is usually assumed that when a certain group of religions originated in other contexts is adopted, this necessarily implies they must suffer important modi-fications in order to have a minimum success in other cultures than those where they had their origins. Byanalysing the expansion of Afrobrasilian religions in Argentina, this article argues that these positions underestimate the use of mechanisms of presentation, rather than adaptation, of new ideas. This makes the individual and social reception of new religions easier, without having to produce important changes in doctrine and in practice. This would be achieved by build-ing bridges between the beliefs and/or value systems present in the society and the systems of beliefs of the new religions. The frame alignment notion, developed by American sociologist David Snow, is particularly appropriate for understanding this process
