    Objetivo: comprender las experiencias en el proceso de adaptación y afrontamiento frente a la enfermedad, desde la perspectiva de padres d e niños con diagnóstico de epilepsia atendidos en el Centro de Especialidades Neurológicas Hospital Puerto Montt.Metodología : in ve stig ació n cualitativa descriptiva con enfoque fenomenológico, participaron 8 mujeres y 1 varón; 6 de ellas madres, un padre y 2 abuelasmaternas.Resul-tados: el análisis cualitativo expuso tres temas: “Sentimientos que surgen de la familia en el proceso de crianza y expresión de la enfermedad” develando la evolución de estos, “Estrategias de crianza y virtudes en el proceso de adaptación” y “Comprensiones obten ida s a tr a vés d e la experiencia en el cuidado”.Conclusión: el afrontamiento de los padres se concentra en el control de la enfe r me da d y su s m a n ife stacio ne s, evidenciándose la necesidad de atención psicológica e instancias de apoyo emocional desde los primeros meses del diagnóstico.

    Objective: understand the experiences in the process of adaptation and coping with the disease, from the perspective of the parents of child r e n with a diagnosis of epilepsy who are cared for in the Neurological Specialty Center, Puerto Montt Hospital.Methods: a qualitative research wa s carried out with a phenomenological approach and descriptive design, 8 women and 1 man participated; 6 o f th e m m oth er s, a fa th er a n d 2 maternal grandmothers.Results: the qualitative analysis exposed 3 themes: “feelings that arise from the family in the process of upbringing a n d expression of the disease”, revealing the evolution of these; “Parenting strategies and virtues in the adaptation process.” and “comprehensions obtained through experience in care”.Conclusions:parents coping focuses on controlling the disease and its manifestations, wh o e xp re ss th e need for psychological care and the creation of instances of emotional support from the first months of diagnosis.
