  A pesar del papel subalterno al que ha sido relegada la mujer en la sociedad patriarcal, las mujeres libres de color y libertas tuvieron una destacada participación en la economía local de Trinidad del último cuarto de siglo XVIII. Las fuentes notariales demuestran su capacidad para la administración y gestión de los bienes propios y de terceros, así como para compartir actividades y espacios con los hombres tanto en el mercado de viviendas como en el de mano de obra, o incluso en la marinería.

  In spite of the subordinate role to which women have been relegated in patriarchal society, free women of color and freed slave women had an outstanding participation in the local economy of Trinidad in the last quarter of the 18th century. Notarial sources demonstrate their capacity for the administration and management of their own property and that of third parties, as well as for sharing activities and spaces with men in the housing market, both in the labor market and even in the seafaring sector.
