  La dehesa se aleja cada vez más de los postulados del desarrollo sostenible. Los problemas ambientales, especialmente el envejecimiento y falta de regeneración del arbolado, se ven agravados por los cambios productivos y el incremento de las cargas ganaderas derivados del sistema de ayudas ganaderas de la Política Agraria Común. En el plano económico, la dehesa se encuentra sometida a una recurrente crisis de rentabilidad propiciada por la falta de ajuste entre los costes de producción y el precio de las producciones. En el ámbito social, el territorio de la dehesa muestra síntomas inequívocos de una debilidad demográfica y económica que sitúa a los municipios más pequeños al borde de la despoblación.

  Dehesa and sustainable development in Estremadura The dehesa moves away increasingly from the postulates of the sustainable development. The environmental problems, specially the aging and lack of regeneration of the woodland, meet aggravated by the productive changes and the increase of the cattle loads derived from the system of cattle helps of the Agrarian Common Politics. In the economic plane, the dehesa is submitted to an appellant crisis of profitability propitiated by the lack of adjustment between the costs of production and the price of the productions. In the social area, the territory of the dehesa shows unequivocal symptoms of a demographic and economic weakness that it places to the smallest municipalities at the edge of the depopulation.
