This article reviews some of the philosophical influences that took place in the philosophy of Michel Foucault and studies its interweaving and relationship with the Foucauldian philosophical project. The main objective is to remove the prejudice about Foucault in particular, and postmodernity in general, from a self-referential French philosophy away from the philosophical tradition. From Kant to the Frankfurt School, passing through Nietzsche and Heidegger, this article tries to draw that previous framework from which Foucault's philosophy takes all the sense.
