  • Based on recent studies on certain moments in the history of thought and the language of the arts and sciences (Leon Battista Alberti, Leonardo da Vinci, mathematicians and scientists from the 16th to 18th centuries), this essay offers a reflection on the dialogue between words and illustrations in scientific texts in Italian. This dialogue is fundamental for specialised textuality, which matures and evolves between the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, anticipating forms that will become prominent in the scientific discourse of the centuries to come
