The relationship between the tendency to crust development and the contentin water stable aggregate(Kemper and Rosenau method)is studied in 35 soil samples fromdifferent lithological areas of the Comunidad de Madrid. The two crusting indices used, theFAO – PNUMA index and another one modified from the former, have very low relationshipto the percentage of water stable aggregates when we consider all the 35 samples togetherbut some tendencies and differences appear when we group the soils according to their parent materials.
