    The article analyses the formation of the modern state during the later middle ages (13th-15th centuries) in Western Europe. It links the formation of this to the elites close to the monarch with the deployment of complex strategies of collective identification of the notables with the monarchy, the country and the national community. Attention is also given to the materiality of the State, present through permanent taxation, which in turn generated national feelings.

    L’article analitza la formació de l’Estat modern a la baixa edat mitjana (segles XIII-XV) a Europa Occidental. A més, vincula la formació d’aquest per part de les elits properes al monarca amb el desplegament de tota una sèrie de complexes estratègies d’identificació col·lectiva dels notables amb la monarquia, el país i la comunitat nacional. Tot sense perdre de vista mai la materialitat de l’Estat, que es fa present mitjançant la fiscalitat permanent sent aquesta el motiu principal per generar els sentiments nacionals.
