    En este trabajo se propone un paseo geológico por el litoral de Punta Galea a Sopelana (N de Bilbao, Bizkaia) que presenta una excelente accesibilidad y magníficos afloramientos con numerosos ejemplos de procesos, estructuras y materiales de diversas especialidades geológicas. Incluido dentro del Global Geosite de la Costa de Uribe o “Uribe Kosta”, contiene 6 Lugares de Interés Geológico, entre los que destacan las playas cementadas cuaternarias generadas a partir de los vertidos de los Altos Hornos, el estratotipo (GSSP) del Luteciense de la playa de Gorrondatxe y el límite Cretácico/Paleógeno (K/Pg) de la playa de Atxabiribil. Este recorrido pretende ser un referente divulgativo para la enseñanza de la geología en el N de Bizkaia. Dirigido a la población en general, busca ser un modelo para la puesta en valor del patrimonio geológico de esta zona que contribuya a la concienciación de la sociedad respecto a la necesidad de protegerlo y conservarlo hasta su inclusión dentro del Plan de Ordenación de los Recursos Naturales del área de Uribe-Kosta-Butroe y del PTS de Zonas Húmedas por la Consejería de Medio Ambiente, Planificación Territorial, Agricultura y Pesca (Orden de 3 de septiembre de 2012).

    In this work the authors propose a geological walk along the coast from Punta Galea to Sopelana (North of Bilbao, Bizkaia) that is easily accessible and shows excellent outcrops, which contain a variety of examples of different geological processes, structures and materials. This walk is included in the Uribe Coast or “Uribe Kosta” Global Geosite and it comprises six individual Geosites. Among these, the quaternary “beach rocks” that originated from the resulting wastes of Altos Hornos, the lutecian Stratotype (GSSP) in the Gorrondatxe Beach and the Cretaceous/Paleogene limit (K/Pg) in the Atxabiribil beach can be highlighted. This walk aims to be established as an educational benchmark in the North of Biscay for the teaching of Geology. As it addresses the general public, its aim is to become a framework for the enhancement of the geological heritage in this area that could help our society to increase awareness of the need for its protection and preservation, until its eventual inclusion into the Natural Resources Regulation Plan for the Uribe-Kosta-Butroe area and the Wetlands Sectorial Land Planning of the Department of Environment, Territorial Planning, Agriculture and Fisheries (Order of September 3, 2012)
