El virus del papiloma humano (VPH) consiste en una de las enfermedades de transmisión sexual (ETS) más frecuentes causada por los virus de la familia de los papilomavirus.
Puede manifestarse con la aparición de condilomas o verrugas en áreas genito-anales o en boca, pero puede haber infección por VPH sin que estas aparezcan. No hay tratamiento para la infección, si hay para las verrugas y hay vacunas para evitar la infección principalmente sobre los tipos de VPH que pueden ocasionar cáncer.
Este virus está relacionado con la aparición de diversos tipos de cáncer, sobre todo está directamente vinculado con el cáncer de cérvix, por ello es importante la prueba de detección de cáncer de cérvix, una citología recomendada a la población mayor de 21 años sexualmente activa.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STD) caused by viruses of the papillomavirus family.
It can manifest itself with the appearance of condylomas or warts in genital-anal areas or in the mouth, but HPV infection can occur without them appearing. There is no treatment for the infection, but there is treatment for the warts, and there are vaccines to prevent infection, mainly for the types of HPV that can cause cancer.
This virus is related to the appearance of various types of cancer, above all it is directly linked to cervical cancer, which is why it is important to have a cervical cancer screening test, a cytology recommended for the sexually active population over 21 years of age.
