Resumen de Geotabarca: Una propuesta de divulgación y gestión del patrimonio geológico y arquitectónico en la isla de Nueva Tabarca (Alicante)

  La geodiversidad de la Isla de Nueva Tabarca (Alicante) queda patente tanto en la pluralidad de litologías presentes en sus afloramientos, el amplio rango de edades que abarca y la multitud de procesos observables, representando, por ello, un lugar idóneo para la divulgación del Patrimonio Geológico, tanto para estudiantes de distintos ciclos como para el uso turístico. El proyecto Geotabarca nace con la doble finalidad de estudiar y difundir el patrimonio geológico de la isla. Los objetivos se han centrado en especificar las características petrológicas de los materiales, detallar su contenido paleontológico y caracterizar la geomorfología de la isla, contribuyendo así a mejorar el conocimiento de su historia geológica. Nueva Tabarca también cuenta con un importante patrimonio arquitectónico, construido en su mayoría con una calcarenita miocena local, con intensos procesos de alteración. El estudio y caracterización de los productos y procesos de alteración de la piedra en el patrimonio construido es un objetivo esencial del proyecto, aportando así una visión multidisciplinar de la geología. Este trabajo, por tanto, representa el primer paso para alcanzar en un futuro próximo la elaboración de un eficaz Plan de Gestión y Preservación del Patrimonio Geológico de la isla de Nueva Tabarca.

  Nueva Tabarca Island (Alicante, SE of Spain) is an interesting Geosite due to its high Geodiversity focused on: i) the high variety of outcropping lithologies; ii) the wide time span it records; iii) the significance of the geologic processes observable in the rocks. As a consequence, Nueva Tabarca represents an interesting site for geology dissemination to both tourism and students at different educative levels. The Geotabarca project has the double aim to study and disseminate the Geologic Heritage of the island. The scientific works carried out are focused on the petrologic characterization of rocks, analysing their fossil content, as well as studying the geomorphology of the site. Results will contribute to the deeper knowledge of the local geology as well as its evolution. Moreover, Nueva Tabarca has an important architectural heritage built with calcarenites quarried from local outcrops, which presents significant weathering levels at monuments. The study and characterization of both decay products and processes acting on the building stone is also included in the aims of the project. This last aspect contributes to offer a global and multidisciplinary approach to the Geology. This paper can be considered as the first step in a long way leading to the elaboration of a global plan for the preservation and management of the Geologic Heritage of the Nueva Tabarca Island
