«Mundos y conocimientos de otro modo»: El programa de investigación de modernidad/colonialidad latinoamericano

    Este artículo presenta y examina críticamente el trabajo de un grupo de investigadores en Latinoamérica y en los Estados Unidos que están elaborando una novedosa interpretación de modernidad, globalidad y diferencia. He denominado este grupo como «el programa de investigación de modernidad/colonialidad» para referirme a lo que parece ser una perspectiva emergente pero significativamente coherente que está alimentando un creciente número de investigaciones, encuentros, publicaciones y otras actividades en torno a una serie de conceptos compartidos, aun si son objeto de debate. Este cuerpo de trabajo constituye una nueva perspectiva desde Latinoamérica, pero no sólo para Latinoamérica sino para el mundo de las ciencias sociales y humanas en su conjunto. Esto no significa que el trabajo de dicho grupo es sólo de interés para las supuestamente universales ciencias sociales y humanas, sino que el mismo grupo busca intervenir decisivamente en la discursividad propia de las ciencias modernas para configurar otro espacio para la producción de conocimiento —una forma distinta de pensamiento, «un paradigma otro»3 , la posibilidad misma de hablar sobre «mundos y conocimientos de otro modo». Lo que este grupo sugiere es que un «pensamiento otro», un «conocimiento otro» –y otro mundo, en el espíritu del Foro Social Mundial de Porto Alegre— son ciertamente posibles

    This article presents and examines critically the work of a group of researchers in Latin America and the United States that are crafting a novel reinterpretation of modernity, globality and difference. I label this group as «the modernity/coloniality research program», to refer to what seems to be an emergent but already significantly cohesive perspective that is fuelling a series of researches, meetings, publications, and so forth around a shared –even if course contested—set of concepts. This body of work constitutes a novel perspective from Latin America but not only for Latin America but for the world of the social and human sciences as a whole. By this I do not mean that the work of this group is just of interest to allegedly universal social and human sciences, but that that the group seeks to make a decisive intervention into the very discursivity of the modern sciences in order to craft another space for the production of knowledge –an «other way of thinking», «un paradigma otro», the very possibility of talking about «worlds and knowledges otherwise». What this group suggests is that an other thought, an «other knowledge» –and another world, in the spirit of Porto Alegre’s World Social Forum—, are indeed possible.
