El propósito de este ensayo consiste en revelar el fundamento teológico del sentimentalismo moral smithiano partiendo de la tesis de que las reglas morales han sido provistas por un Ser Superior. Con ese propósito se siguió un método interpretativo que revisó tres tópicos en la propuesta ética de Adam Smith y cuya indagación mostró, además, una lectura basada en el sentimiento de simpatía como eje del asentimiento moral.

The purpose of this essay is to reveal the theological foundation of Smithian moral sentimentalism based on the thesis that moral rules have been provided by a Higher Being. For this purpose, an interpretative method was followed that reviewed three topics in Adam Smith's ethical proposal and whose inquiry showed, in addition, a reading based on the feeling of sympathy as the axis of moral assent.
