    Este artículo compara dos ediciones dedicadas al mismo autor y obra, Joaquín Gatell y su Diario, con el objetivo de reflexionar sobre la apropiación de un libro de viajes por intelectuales al servicio del Protectorado español en Marruecos. La representación del explorador decimonónico en las dos ediciones se construye desde la óptica colonial que caracterizó muchas publicaciones españolas de los años 50 del siglo XX.
