  • Resumen
    • Archaeological evidence suggests that the battle of Las Navas produced a major reorganization in settlement patterns in Castile, bringing far-reaching technological, agricultural, artistic, and architectural changes. The presence of a significant subject mudéjar population within the borders of Castile brought such profound benefits to the realm that it is worth asking whether there may have been a conscious policy – perhaps associated with Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada – favoring the presence of such Islamic communities. This essay aims to advance a hypothesis and to spur debate on the question.
