    No texto que ora se apresenta, pretendemos analisar a construção e a divulgação das obras históricas sobre a província do Brasil do jesuíta Simão de Vasconcelos entre as décadas de 1650 e 1660 tendo em vista três fatores contextuais importantes: a produção jesuítica de literatura histórica sobre as missões ultramarinas e sua publicização entre as décadas de 1550 e 1650 na Europa; os impactos da sua circulação nas dinâmicas internas da Companhia de Jesus; e as principais questões vividas pelos jesuítas da América portuguesa no período em que Vasconcelos elaborou seus textos. A partir da análise retórica e bibliográfica das obras do padre, bem como à luz do contexto das publicações jesuíticas missionárias e dos conflitos vividos pelos jesuítas do Brasil, procuramos demonstrar como o religioso construiu um discurso histórico sobre a província brasílica se utilizando dos principais elementos de prestígio da época com vistas a atrair mais missionários e fortalecer a atuação da ordem na América portuguesa.

    The historiography of the last decades that has been dedicated to reflect on the written culture of the catholic clergy in the modern era has highlighted the relevance that the production, circulation and various uses of texts, manuscripts and printed, had had in the development of the mission of religious orders , inside and outside Europe, as well as the importance of considering the historical context in which these texts were produced and used. The article now presented intend to analyze the construction and dissemination of the historical works on the province of Brazil by the jesuit Simão de Vasconcelos between the 1650s and 1660s considering three important contextual factors: the jesuitic production of historical literature on the overseas missions and their publication between the 1550s and 1650s in Europe; the impacts of its circulation on the internal dynamics of the Society of Jesus; and the main issues experienced by the jesuits of Portuguese America in the period when Vasconcelos prepared his texts. From the rhetorical and bibliographic analysis of the priest's works, as well as in the light of the context of jesuit missionary publications and the conflicts experienced by jesuits in Brazil, we seek to demonstrate how Vasconcelos constructed a historical discourse on the brazilian province using the main elements of prestige of the time aiming to attract more missionaries and strengthen the order's activities in Portuguese America.
