    Se presenta la definición de las capas históricas del paisaje urbano de la ciudad de Ibarra, Ecuador durante el siglo XVII a la primera mitad del XX. El trabajo, susten- tado en la planificación ecológica, valora factores naturales y antrópicos en distintas escalas, ocurridos en el tiempo. Se partió de un análisis cualitativo con enfoque histórico sobre algunos atributos del paisaje urbano. Posteriormente, se realizó un análisis cuantitativo a partir de una encuesta de imagen urbana realizada en el sector para verificar datos del análisis histórico. Se concluye con los valores escénicos que marcaron el crecimiento del damero colonial y llevan a resignificarlo como base para el desarrollo ulterior del período republicano. Resalta la importancia de conservar la continuidad e interconectividad histórica de cada capa, como parte del legado que favorece la identidad cultural de su población

    The definition of the historical layers of the urban landscape of the city of Ibarra, Ecuador from the 17th century to the first half of the 20th is presented. The work was supported by ecological planning, values natural and anthropogenic factors at different scales, occurring over time. It starts from a qualitative analysis with a historical focus on some attributes of the urban landscape. The research follows with a quantitative analysis performed from an urban image survey carried out in the sector to verify data from the historical analysis. It concludes with the scenic values that marked the growth of the colonial checkerboard resignifying it as a basis for the further development of the Republican period. It highlights the importance of preserving the historical continuity and interconnectivity of each layer, as part of the legacy that contributes the cultural identity of its population
