Resumen de A Oficina e a Câmara: a relação entre os mesteirais e a Vereação do Porto nos séculos XIV e XV

  O presente trabalho analisa a interação entre os mesteirais e o poder municipal portuense ao longo do século XV, tendo por base as atas das reuniões da Vereação da cidade. Caracterizar-se-á esta relação, começando por se discutir a operacionalidade do conceito de mesteiral enquanto classe social coesa, em particular no que toca ao seu relacionamento com a elite municipal. Esta questão é central no estudo que se propõe, inserindo-se no debate historiográfico mais vasto sobre a conceção de classe e sua aplicabilidade na realidade medieval. Partindo desta questão, procuraremos entender as formas de participação dos mesteirais no governo da urbe portuense no século XV e a relação entre estes e a elite governativa, identificando os cargos concelhios desempenhados pelos oficiais mecânicos, os momentos em que eram chamados à Câmara para ‘dar voz’ e o nível de intervenção do município nas atividades profissionais. Por outro lado, é fundamental analisar as formas de auto-organização dos mesteres para entender até que ponto estas constituíram formas de resistência ou de intervenção coletiva, procurando-se aferir os contextos de surgimento, os modos de ação e de representação, bem como o eventual reconhecimento das mesmas por parte da elite governativa.

  This work analyses the interaction between the craftsmen and Porto’s municipal power throughout the 15th century, based on the minutes of the city council meetings. This relationship will be characterized, starting with a discussion on the value of the concept of the craftsman as a cohesive social class, particularly concerning its relationship with the municipal elite. This issue is central to the proposed study, as part of the broader historiographic debate about class conception and its applicability in medieval reality. From this question, we will try to understand the ways in which the craftsmen interacted with the government of Porto in the 15th century, identifying, on one hand, the municipal positions held by them and the moments when they were called to "give their voice"; and, on the other hand, the level of intervention of the municipality in professional activity. At the same time, it is essential to analyse the forms of self-organization of the craftsmen to understand the extent to which they constitute forms of resistance or collective intervention, seeking to assess the contexts of their emergence, their modes of action and representation, as well as the eventual recognition of them by the governing elite.
