  We study the constitution of new urban elites in the period immediately following the last phase of conquests in the middle Guadiana (30’s of the 13th century) and, to a great extent, corresponding to the profound territorial reorganization carried out by Afonso III. The pivotal years of this reorganization (essentially the 1950s and 1960s) saw an intense regulatory activity, either by granting charters or by intervening in demarcations that delimit jurisdictional spheres between municipalities and between these and the new landlords. We are particularly interested in the urban protagonists of these processes, that is, the definition of urban oligarchies capable of controlling the new municipal powers. Interconnections as well as the way in which they relate to the crown and the noble powers are considered.This social system ends at the threshold of new century either because the frontier society that had originated it quickly vanishes, the contemporary generation of D. Dinis, born in 1260, having no longer had any contact with it, or because of the arrival of families to an end of the biological cycle, or finally due to the effects of the diffusion of the social model of the nobility.

  Estuda-se aqui a constituição de novas elites urbanas no período imediatamente subsequente à última fase de conquistas no Guadiana médio (década de 30 do século XIII) e, em grande medida correspondente à profunda reorganização territorial operada por Afonso III. Os anos fulcrais dessa reorganização (essencialmente as décadas de 50 e 60) conhecem uma intensa actividade reguladora, quer pela concessão de forais, quer pela intervenção em demarcações que delimitam esferas de jurisdicionais entre concelhos e entre estes e os novos senhorios. Interessam-nos aqui os protagonistas urbanos desses processos, isto é, a definição de oligarquias urbanas capazes de controlar os novos poderes municipais. De particular relevância é a consideração das suas interconexões assim como da forma como se relacionam com a coroa e com os poderes senhoriais que, nesse momento e nesse território, ela sustenta. Esse sistema social termina no limiar de Trezentos, quer porque a sociedade de fronteira que o tinha originado rapidamente se esfuma, a geração contemporânea de D. Dinis, nascida por 1260, não tendo tido já qualquer contacto com ela, quer pela chegada das famílias a um fim de ciclo biológico, quer finalmente pelos efeitos da difusão do modelo social da nobreza.
