Aural Technology, Phenomenology, and Data Matrices in Pierre Schaeffer's Treatise on Musical Objects: Contributions to a Science of What is Heard
In this presentation I propose to present three theses about Pierre Schaeffer's Treatise on Musical Objects. The first is the idea that this author is more a follower of the innovations of aural technology, than of the musical innovation of the 20th century. The second is to review Schaeffer's links with phenomenology. The third is to articulate what Schaeffer called the object-structure pair, make a reading of it from the data matrix systems that Juan Samaja theorized and, in turn, link the phenomenological method in Schaeffer with the data matrices. .
