Resumen de La deglaciación Holocena de la Península Byers (isla Livingston, Antártida marítima) a partir de la datación de sedimentos lacustres

  • In this paper we introduce new radiocarbon dates for three lacustrine sedimentary records from Byers Peninsula (Livingston Island), the largest ice-free area in maritime Antarctica. The preliminary chronology for the formation of Chester, Escondido and Cerro Negro lakes suggests that the central area of Byers Peninsula remained ice-free probably during the Mid-Holocene, while the western part of the peninsula was already deglaciated in the Early Holocene. Although the eastern part of the Byers Peninsula is considered to have been deglaciated more recently, our results from Lake Cerro Negro suggest its formation in the Early Holocene, and thus that Cerro Negro may have functioned as a nunatak lake since that time.
