Elephant Point constitutes an ice-free area in the SW corner of Livingston Island (Maritime Antarctica) where periglacial processes are dominant. From the glacier to the coast four geomorphological areas were identified: proglacial environment, moraine complex, bedrock plateaus and marine terraces. According to our measurements of the depth of the frozen ground and field observations permafrost conditions are widespread, almost down to sea level.
