Assessment of magnitude-frequency relationships of debris flows is especially difficult at sites where repeated activity occurs, as in a debris cone. Here, a method for estimating the magnitude of debris-flow events and for dating them by means of relative dating and tree-ring dating is presented. The method was applied to a small torrential basin located in the Eastern Pyrenees (the Tordó torrent basin). A total of eight debris flows were identified, ranging from 600 to 19000 m3, and dated at the site which cover a period of 47 years.
