  • Resumen
    • In this study I try to show how Basque emigration to the United States is represented in Basque literature (literature written in Basque). To contextualize this study, I first review the Basque theme in the Anglo-Saxon literature of the American West. Next, I analyze how the Basques themselves tell in their language (in different literary genres, such as storytelling or bertso), the experience of emigration, travel and ways of life in the new continent, with its difficulties, with its dramatic situations and with their celebration of their "Basqueness" in the American continent. The self-image that they develop in Basque literature and the attitudes adopted by the authors and characters are the focus of this study, as they sometimes reflect what has been adopted in English literature (when dealing with the Basque issue) and it also reflects some essentialist tendencies seen in other world literatures when dealing with emigration.
