“Em defesa da Honra”: Violência e sociabilidade em Mallet -PR (1936-1950)

  • This article pretends to analyze crimes involving issues of honor and defense by litigants. In most cases violence was an instrument to recover the lost or even simply contested honor. The reflection is based on the analysis of criminal cases and police inquiries, such documentation brings us experiences of restoring honor among the popular, in situations of offenses occurred, in leisure spaces. These places constitute spaces of mainly male sociability and the disputes therein correspond to an important value system of that community, and can not be identified as acts of irrational violence, considering that the practices of reputation restoration touch all individuals, since the feeling of honor is universal and independent of social class.
