    El artículo pretende dar respuesta a las siguientes preguntas: a) ¿El nombre del río Tiberis es latino o tiene origen etrusco? ¿Cómo lo llamaron los etruscos? Para averiguarlo, nos serviremos de los praen. lat. Tiberius, etr. Θih-varies, Θefarie, Θefri. b) ¿Dónde, cuándo y por qué recurrieron los griegos a Θύβρις, variante de Τίβερις, para denominar al río de Roma? c) ¿Es etrusco Thybris, el nombre del río Tiberis en la Eneida, y cuál es la etimología de este último, seg ún Virgilio?

    This paper tries to answer the fol-lowing questions: a) Is the name of the river Tib-eris latin? Or is its origin etruscan? How did the Etruscans refer to said river? To address these matters we make use of the praen. lat. Tiberius, etr. Θihvaries, Θefarie, Θefri. b) Where, when and why did the Greeks start using Θύβρις, a variant of Τίβερις to name the river in Rome? c) Is Thybris, the name given to the Tiberis river in the Aeneid, etruscan? What is the etymology of the latter, according to Vergil?
